Railroading Heritage of Midwest America would like to announce the award of $31,000 by the Emery Rail Heritage Trust to go towards the return to service of the Sleeping Car/Lounge Caritas. We would like to thank the Emery Rail Heritage Trust for its continued support of non-profits to preserve rolling stock from the golden age of rail travel.

Railroading Heritage of Midwest America was proud to announce in late 2021 the acquisition of the Caritas Railcar from the Iowa Pacific Holding’s bankruptcy trustee. John Emery was a frequent rider of the Caritas over the years, riding with car’s previous owner, Clark Johnson. You can find more information at Caritas Railcar

RRHMA will use the funds granted by the Emery Rail Heritage Trust to immediately put the car back into Amtrak Service. To accomplish this goal RRHMA will have inspections and repairs done to the rail car to bring it back into Amtrak Certified compliance. With the hopes that the general public will once again be able to enjoy this one-of-a-kind rail car in the future.

The John H. Emery Rail Heritage Trust was created by John Emery, To help re-create and preserve, to the extent possible, the rail passenger travel experience as it was in the U.
