With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph “Joey” G Maidl, a beloved friend and cherished member of the community. Born on October 23, 1941, to Joseph and Hellen, Joey spent a lifetime bringing warmth and joy to those around him.
Joey dedicated many years of his career to the City of St. Paul in maintenance and later embraced his culinary passions, working as a chef on Mississippi riverboats and at the Fort Snelling Club until its closing. His passion for serving others and his warm, generous spirit carried over to his volunteer work, where he became a treasured member of Friends of the 261, a role he started in 2003.
His time with Friends of the 261 was more than just volunteering—it was a labor of love that brought joy to his life and those around him. Known for his youthful spirit and warm smile, Joey had a unique way of connecting with people of all ages. Whether sharing stories, helping with projects, or simply brightening someone’s day, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Joey will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. His legacy of kindness and his love for life will continue to inspire us all.
