Day 1: MONDAY AUGUST 5th – Arrive Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada.

This package begins with your suggested afternoon arrival in Winnipeg, Manitoba to check in and overnight here at the Grand Trunk Pacific railway-built Hotel Fort Garry that is part of the package and located across the street from the Winnipeg train station. This evening there will be a welcome dinner at the hotel followed by a walking tour and heritage presentation about the origins of the City of Winnipeg as a Hudson Bay Company Post. Overnight Winnipeg.

Day 2: TUESDAY AUGUST 6th -All Aboard VIA Rail’s Winnipeg – Churchill train.

We will start in the morning at the historic Winnipeg Union Station to check luggage, for the baggage car) at the VIA Rail Ticket Counter here so it will be transferred directly to our Churchill hotel. This will be followed by a tour of the Winnipeg Railway Museum (located right in the station) that features the 1st steam locomotive on the Canadian Prairies and other railway related displays. After the museum tour we will board the train prior to the scheduled Noon departure to view your sleeping car space before enjoying lunch in the dining car prepared fresh by VIA Rail Canada’s onboard chefs. There will be a dome observation car as part of the train to enjoy the passing scenery. Also enjoy dinner on the train as the route continues north-west passing the prairies and Riding Mountain National Park before overnighting on the train.

Day 3: WEDNESDAY AUGUST 7th – The Pas to Gillam travel day on the train.

Still travelling north, awake to have breakfast in the dining car with views outside the train of the forested Canadian Shield and perhaps some time to stretch your legs during the extended stop in Thompson, MB. The train makes numerous stops at communities and flag stops only accessible by train along the route that also features remote lakes and high river crossings. Lunch and dinner will also be enjoyed onboard and again overnight on the train in our assigned sleeping car space.

Day 4: THURSDAY AUGUST 8th – Arrive and start discovering Churchill, MB.

This morning the trees outside will become smaller and fewer as the views changes to stretches of Tundra. Enjoy breakfast on the train before the morning arrival in Churchill, Manitoba. First there will be a bus tour of the town and area including views of the town’s most Northern point of Cape Merry overlooking Hudson Bay. Luggage from the baggage car will be transferred directly to our hotel lobby that we can claim when we check in followed by some free time to explore the community. Today will also feature a group visit to the Itsanitaq Museum with displays of soapstone and other art work then a welcome to Churchill dinner of Arctic Char at the hotel we are staying at and overnight here.

Day 5: FRIDAY AUGUST 9th – Beluga & Fort Prince of Wales Boat Tour.

Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. Today a better part of the day will be taking part in a Beluga Whale viewing boat tour that also features a visit to the opposite shore line and the over 300 year old Fort Prince of Wales site. There also plans to be a visit to the Parks Canada Churchill Interpretive Centre (in the restored Churchill train station) for a presentation before enjoying dinner and a second night at our Churchill hotel.

Day 6: SATURDAY AUGUST 10th – Another full day in Churchill & depart by train.

After enjoying breakfast in the hotel there will be some free time in the morning to shop some of the local souvenir boutiques (or an optional dog sled tour) followed by an afternoon driving tour of exploration along the arctic coastline. Following this will be dinner back in town before transferring to the Churchill train station and boarding the southbound train, in your sleeping car accommodation, where you can watch for the northern lights from the dome car.

Day 7: SUNDAY AUGUST 12th – Southbound travel day on the train.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be enjoyed for the southbound trip with the train passing forests and rivers and isolated communities only accessed by train. Again, you will get to overnight in your sleeping car accommodation.

Day 8: MONDAY AUGUST 13th -Train returns to the Canadian Prairies and Winnipeg.

Today will be the last day of the train passing the prairies before arriving back in Winnipeg in the late afternoon and return to the hotel across the street from the station for another night here included as part of the tour.

Day 9: TUESDAY AUGUST 14th – Travel day to return home.

Awake refreshed in Winnipeg to say good bye to your travel companions before your return home.
